Ameling, Elly [Elisabeth] (Sara) (b Rotterdam, 1934). Dutch soprano. Début Amsterdam 1961. London début 1966, Amer. (NY) 1968. Specialist in Lieder and oratorio, being particularly fine in Bach cantatas and Passions, and Schubert songs. Rare opera appearances, e.g. Madama Butterfly (Dutch TV 1970), and with Netherlands Opera 1973; Washington DC Opera 1974.

Elly Ameling (Elisabeth Sara Ameling), 1933-, Dutch soprano. Although she has sung opera, she is noted for her sensitive interpretations of French and German art songs, particularly the lieder of Schubert. She made her U.S. debut in New York City in 1968. She retired from public performance in 1995.
