Eden
Eden ♀, ♂ This name is found as a variant or pet form of Edith in Yorkshire from the 15th century onwards. It is recorded as a baptismal name in the 16th century. In present-day use it probably refers to the biblical ‘Garden of Eden’, crew ῾eden ‘place of pleasure’. As a boy's name it may also represent a variant of Aidan or a transferred use of a surname, itself derived in the Middle Ages from a given name Edun or Edon. This is of Old English origin, from ēad ‘prosperity, riches’ + hūn ‘bear cub’.
