Archilochus

Archilochus , fl. c.700 or c.650 BC, Greek poet, b. Paros. As an innovator in the use and construction of the personal lyric, his language was intense and often violent. Many fragments of his verse survive.

Archilochus

Archilochus (active 7th century bc) Greek poet. Fragments of his intense, personal lyrics still survive. He is considered to be the first Greek poet to write about individual experiences and emotions and was an influence on Horace.
