THE ORIGINS OF DR. SPOCK
In David Alexander's biography of Gene Roddenberry, he reports that the character of Dr. Spock was to have been a "redhued Martian." Convinced, however, that space exploration would reach Mars during Star Trek's run, Roddenberry changed Spock's origin to another planet, beyond the solar system: Vulcan.
