Karl Ziegler

1898-1973

German chemist who conducted important research into the chemical properties and technology of polymers. Ziegler also produced significant results in the areas of organo-metallic compounds, some of which are crucial for the synthesis of high-density polyethylene that is widely used in many areas of industry. Ziegler's work earned him a number of prestigious awards and medals during his career, including the 1953 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
