Emeline Jones
Emeline Jones ?-?
The first female dentist in the United States. Her interest in dentistry began when she married a dentist at age 18, though, as her enthusiasm was discouraged, she studied in secret. Once her skill was obvious, however, her husband made her his business partner; she continued to practice alone after his death. Jones worked as a dentist for over 50 years, often traveling to see patients. In 1893 she became the first woman elected to the Connecticut State Dental Society.
