Edward Hartley Angle
Edward Hartley Angle
1855-1930
American dentist who published a landmark treatise on the treatment of malocclusion of the teeth. He was a pioneer in the evolution of orthodontics as a specialty within the profession of dentistry. Angle established classifications that organized the various abnormalities of the teeth and jaws and developed methods for treating them. Angle's classification system is used to define three major types of malocclusion, based on the relationship of the permanent molars as they erupt and lock into position.
