Author of a frequently quoted history of Freemasonry: Histoire pittoresque de la Franc-Maçonnerie et des sociétés anciennes et modernes (1843). He hinted in it that when Freemasonry in Austria was suppressed by Charles VI, the Order of Mopses was established in its place.
