Andronikos (Andronicos) of Kyrrhestes
Andronikos (Andronicos) of Kyrrhestes
First century b.c.
Greek clockmaker who built the Tower of the Winds in Athens, a water clock combined with sundials and wind indicators in an octagonal building. The tower also displayed the seasons of the years and astrological dates. The building still stands and is one of the few examples of Corinthian architecture from ancient Greece. In later times, engravings were added to the building. The clock mechanism, however, did not survive.
