Zeidae
Zeidae (dories; subclass Actinopterygii, order Zeiformes) A family of marine fish that have a deep and compressed body, a large head with a wide and protrusible mouth slanted upward, and large eyes. The two sections of the dorsal fin are separated by a distinct notch. In several European countries Zeus faber (John Dory), 66 cm, is also known as St Peter's fish, because of the presence of a black spot (‘thumb-print of St Peter’) on the sides of the fish. There are several species, distributed in the Atlantic and Pacific.
