Spathodea (African tulip tree; family Bignoniaceae) A monotypic genus (S. campanulata, formerly S. nilotica) of evergreen trees which have pinnate leaves and large, red flowers in racemes. The pod splits into 2 parts. The seeds are winged. They are planted for their attractive flowers and occur in tropical Africa.
