Purbeckian A stage in the British Upper Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous, underlain by the Portlandian and overlain by rocks of the Wealden Beds. The type section is found in southern England and consists of sediments deposited under intertidal to brackish freshwater conditions. See also TITHONIAN; and RYAZANIAN.
