Ochotonidae
Ochotonidae (calling hares, conies, mouse hares, pikas; cohort Glires, order Lagomorpha) A family of lagomorphs in which the ears are short, the tail is not visible externally, and the hind limbs, bearing four digits, are only slightly longer than the fore limbs, which bear five digits. Ochotonidae live in mountainous regions throughout the northern hemisphere at altitudes higher than those available to most mammals. They shelter in burrows or crevices, some socially, and do not hibernate, feeding during winter on plant material that they have gathered and dried during the summer and autumn. There is one genus, Ochotona, with about 14 species.
