Mangifera (family Anacardiaceae) A genus of small to large evergreen trees which have simple leaves borne spirally in tight terminal clusters; these leaves are red when young. The fruit is a drupe, variously fibrous, and that of several species is edible (mangoes) M. indica is widely cultivated throughout the tropics. The timber is an attractive dark brown with blackish markings. There are about 35 species, native to tropical Asia.
