limes divergens The Latin name (limen means ‘threshold’) given to a diffuse boundary zone in which one major habitat type changes gradually into another, typically with both types showing internal variation. It is more stable than the limes convergens, since the change in environment is spatially and temporarily gradual and persistent, rather than catastrophic and/or intermittent.
