Homalopteridae (hillstream loach; subclass Actinopterygii, order Cypriniformes) A family of freshwater fish that have a slender body, subterminal mouth, three or more pairs of barbels around the mouth, a single dorsal fin, and large, rounded pectoral and pelvic fins. They are bottom-dwelling fish inhabiting fast-flowing mountain streams. There are about 87 species, found in tropical Asia.
