Grimes habitat classification
Grime's habitat classification A scheme devised in the 1970s by J. P. Grime in which habitats are categorized by the conditions they provide and the level of disturbance affecting them. This determines an appropriate life strategy for the plant species occupying them. Where resources are abundant and disturbance is rare, the habitat becomes crowded and species adopt a competitive strategy. Where disturbance is rare, but resources are scarce or conditions harsh, species adopt a tolerant strategy. Where conditions are benign, resources plentiful, but disturbance is common, species adopt a ruderal strategy. Various intermediate strategies are also identified.
