evergreen mixed forest A forest in which the dominant trees are both evergreen broad-leaved hardwoods and conifers. Such forests are particularly well developed in the southern hemisphere, in South Africa, Tasmania, New Zealand, and Chile. In the northern hemisphere, eastern Asia and the Mediterranean basin once contained large tracts of such forest, but most of it has long been cleared.
