Empetraceae A family comprising 3 genera and 5 species of heath-like shrubs in which the leaves are evergreen with inrolled margins. The flowers are very small, borne in clusters, with 4–6 perianth segments in 2 similar whorls and 2 or 3 stamens, and there are black, juicy drupes for fruits. Empetrum (crowberry) is an example. They occur in north temperate regions and in temperate S. America.
