Callistemon (family Myrtaceae) A genus of plants in which the inflorescences are conspicuous, stout spikes, beyond which a leafy shoot extends. Several species are ornamentals. There are 20 species, occurring in Australia and New Caledonia. They are close to Metrosideros.
