aneuploid A cell or organism whose nuclei possess a chromosome number that is greater by a small number than the normal chromosome number for that species. Instead of having an exact multiple of the haploid number of chromosomes, one or more chromosomes are represented more times than the rest. An aneuploid typically results from non-disjunction of one or more pairs of homologous chromosomes.

aneuploid Describing a nucleus, cell, or organism in which one or more chromosomes have been added to or deleted from the complete set, so that the total number of chromosomes is not an exact multiple of the haploid number (n); for example, 2n + 1 (see trisomy) or 2n – 1 (monosomy). Compare euploid.
