Amygdalus (almond, peach; family Rosaceae) A genus of 40 species, from temperate Asia, but almond, peach, apricot, and nectarine have long been cultivated and are grown in many parts of the world. They are close to Prunus and often not kept in a separate genus, but have axillary buds in threes and fruits that are usually downy, with the stone pitted or wrinkled.
