tera-

tera- (symbol: T) A prefix indicating a multiple of one million million, 1012, as in terahertz and teravolt. When the binary number system is involved in a structure or process (as in semiconductor RAM or ROM), the prefix indicates a multiple of 240, i.e. 1 099 511 627 776,

as in terabyte or terabit. The context usually clarifies which meaning is intended.
