pay·load / ˈpāˌlōd/ • n. the part of a vehicle's load, esp. an aircraft's, from which revenue is derived; passengers and cargo. ∎  the total load of bombs carried by a bomber. ∎  an explosive warhead carried by a missile. ∎  equipment, personnel, or satellites carried by a spacecraft.
