furan

furan Strictly C4H4O, but more commonly one of a range of polychlorinated dibenzofurans that are produced as contaminants from the incomplete incineration of chlorinated hydrocarbons, especially polychlorinated biphenyls. Severe exposure to furans can cause chloracne in humans and they are suspected of causing liver damage and liver cancer.
