SOLODAR, ABRAHAM
SOLODAR, ABRAHAM (1890–1936), U.S. Hebrew poet and teacher. Born in Russia, Solodar went to Ereẓ Israel in 1911, and emigrated to the United States in 1926. At an early age he was encouraged in his literary efforts by Bialik in Odessa, and by *Brenner in Tel Aviv.
His volume of lyrical poems, Shirim, abounding in folk-motifs, was published posthumously by Menahem *Ribalow (1939) He published Ba-Teva (1925), a textbook on natural sciences in Hebrew, a Hebrew Reader, and edited the children's weeklies Alummot (1922–23) and Olam ha-Yeladim (1927–28). Toward the end of his life he edited a Hebrew literary quarterly Dorenu (1934) in Chicago.
