PTOLEMY OF CHENNOS ° (early second century b.c.e.), of Alexandria, author of a lost "new" compilation of interesting facts, summarized in Photius. He derived Moses' supposed nickname, "Alpha," from the Greek word for leprosy, alphoi (cf. Nicarchus).
