MAIMON, YA'ACOV

MAIMON, YA'ACOV (1902–1977), Israel government stenographer. In 1976 Maimon was awarded the Israel Prize for services in immigrant absorption. Born in Russia, Maimon immigrated in 1922. With the influx of immigrants to Israel after the establishment of the state he devoted himself, in a voluntary capacity, to the absorption of immigrants and organized hundreds of volunteers who followed his example. Maimon served as the official stenographer of the government and invented the system of Hebrew stenography.
