Tenshō Kōtai Jingūkyō, Japanese new religious movement, founded by Kitamura Sayo (1900–67). She received a revelation that the world was about to end, and in 1945 proclaimed herself universal saviour. Her followers believed her to be the successor of the Buddha and Jesus. The movement is known as ‘the dancing faith’, because of its use of dance to induce ecstatic and trance states.
