Shiguseigan
Shiguseigan (Jap.). ‘Four great vows’ in Zen Buddhism. They are part of the bodhisattva vow as recited three times at the end of zazen: (i) shujō muhen seigando, ‘beings are countless, I vow to save them all’; (ii) bonnō mujin seigandan, ‘passions are countless, I vow to eradicate them’; (iii) homon muryo seigangaku, ‘dharma gates are many, I vow to enter them all’; (iv) butsudō mujō seiganjo, ‘the way of the Buddha is unsurpassable, I vow to actualize it’.
