Saṃyama (Skt., ‘restraint’). Inner discipline, the three final stages in Hindu rāja yoga, as analysed by Patañjali: dhāraṇā, dhyāna, samādhi. See Yoga-Sūtra, ch. 3. Among Jains, it is the key practice in the ascetic way, along with the generation (in counterbalance) of tapas.
