Rajas
Rajas (Skt.). In Sāṃkhya one of the three strands (guṇas) of material nature (prakṛti). It is present in varying degrees in all things except pure consciousness (puruṣa). In the external world, rajas is manifested as force or movement: that which moves has a predominance of rajas. In the individual, it is ambition, effort, and activity; it is also anxiety, passion, wickedness, and all forms of suffering. Through interaction with the other guṇas all varieties of creation arise.
