Kegi (Jap., ‘teaching method’). The four ways of teaching in Japanese Buddhism, especially as classified in Tendai: (i) tongyo, sudden and abrupt; (ii) zengyo, gradual; (iii) himitsukyō, secret (meaning that pupils are attaining understanding without awareness of it); (iv) fujōkyō, discriminate (pupils attain understanding while aware of it).
