Bodhisattva-śīla
Bodhisattva-śīla (Skt.). Rules of discipline for the forming of a bodhisattva, which are obligatory in Mahāyāna Buddhism for both monks and laypeople. They are laid down in the Brahmajala-sūtra. They are not rigid, in the sense that they can be broken if the welfare of another is at stake.
