Baraita (Aram., for Heb., hizonah, ‘outside’). Every Jewish tradition of the tannaim which is found outside Judah ha-Nasi's Mishnah. The beraitot (pl.) were used to supplement mishnaic teaching or to solve a new problem which had arisen.
