ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib ibn Hāshim
ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib ibn Hāshim (of the tribe of Quraysh). Grandfather of Muḥammad. When Muḥammad's father died, he became guardian of the child, but himself died when Muḥammad was aged 8, and the guardianship passed to his uncle Abū Ṭālib the father of ʿAlī.
