Seydlitz, Friedrich Wilhelm, Freiherr von
Friedrich Wilhelm Seydlitz, Freiherr von (frē´drĬkh vĬl´hĕlm frī´hĕr fən zīd´lĬts), 1721–73, Prussian general under Frederick II. He helped restore the effectiveness of the Prussian cavalry and fought in the most important battles of the War of the Austrian Succession and the Seven Years War, notably at Hohenfriedberg (1745), Kolin (1757), Rossbach (1757), Zorndorf (1758), and Freiberg (1762).
