Ringsted
Ringsted (rĬng´stĕŧħ), city (1992 pop. 17,457), Vestsjælland co., E Denmark. It is the commercial and processing center of a rich agricultural region. Ringsted was a place of pagan worship in ancient Sjælland, but later became a center of Christianity. It was one of the most important towns in Denmark in the Middle Ages. The 12th-century Benedictine monastery there has a church containing the tombs of several Danish kings of the 12th–13th cent.
