Gorzów Wielkopolski
Gorzów Wielkopolski (gôr´zōōf vyĕlkôpôl´skē), Ger. Landsberg an der Warthe, city (1994 est. pop. 125,800), capital (with Zielona Góra) of Lubuskie prov., W Poland, on the Warthe River. A transportation and trade center, it also produces synthetic textiles and various food products. Chartered in 1257, it was destroyed by the Swedes in the Thirty Years War. The town rose again in the 18th cent. as part of the Prussian province of Brandenburg. In World War II it again suffered great destruction.
