Feyjóo y Montenegro, Benito Gerónimo
Benito Gerónimo Feyjóo y Montenegro (bānē´tō hārō´nēmō fāēhō´ō ē mōntānā´grō), 1676–1764, Spanish Benedictine scholar and critic, abbot at Oviedo, Asturias. Feyjóo led in bringing the Enlightenment to Spain. In his social and political ideas, in philosophy, science, and literature, he represented the most advanced European thought of his time. Feijóo is a variant spelling of his name.
