Royal Cortissoz (kôrtē´sōz), 1869–1948, American critic and lecturer on art. He was the New York Herald Tribune art critic from 1891 and was noted for his lectures at the Metropolitan Museum and at other museums throughout the United States. He wrote biographies of Augustus Saint-Gaudens (1907), John La Farge (1911), and Whitelaw Reid (1921), as well as Art and Common Sense (1913), American Artists (1923), Personalities in Art (1925), and The Painter's Craft (1930).
