Carson, Edward Henry, Baron (1854–1935) Northern Irish political leader. A famous barrister and powerful orator, he was the leader of resistance to Irish Home Rule. Organizing the paramilitary Ulster Volunteers (1912) and proclaiming “Ulster will fight, and Ulster will be right”, he forced the British government to exclude the Protestant provinces from the Home Rule Agreement of 1914.
