Matterhorn a mountain in the Alps, on the border between Switzerland and Italy, first climbed in 1865 by the English mountaineer Edward Whymper. It may be taken as the type of a difficult and dangerous ascent.

Matterhorn (Monte Cervino) Mountain peak in Switzerland, in the Pennine Alps, on the Swiss-Italian border. It has a distinctive pyramidal peak formed from several cirques and was first climbed by English mountaineer Edward Whymper in 1865. Height: 4478m (14,691ft).
