Dorothy, St (d. c.313), a virgin martyr during the persecution of Diocletian. She is said to have been taunted on her way to execution by Theophilus, a young lawyer who asked her to send him fruits from the paradise to which she believed she was going. She agreed to do so, and after her death an angel brought him a basket holding three apples and three roses; this converted him, and he too was executed. Her emblem is a basket of fruit and flowers, and her feast day is 6 February.
