Daphnis of Miletus (d. c.300 bc). Architect (with Paeonius of Ephesus) of the Ionic temple of Apollo at Didyma (begun c.313 bc), one of the largest temples in Asia Minor.

Daphnis in Greek mythology, a Sicilian shepherd who, according to one version of the legend, was struck with blindness for his infidelity to the nymph Echenais. He consoled himself with pastoral poetry, of which he was the inventor.
