Joanna of the Tower (1321–62), queen of David II of Scotland, was the youngest daughter of Edward II and born in the Tower of London. In 1328 when she was 7 she was married to David Bruce, son and heir of Robert I of Scotland, who succeeded in 1329. In 1334 when Edward Balliol invaded, the young couple were sent to France and did not return until 1341. Five years later, David was captured by the English at Neville's Cross and taken to London. Joanna visited him and for a while resided at Hertford castle. Soon after his release in 1357 she left him, and spent the rest of her life in refuge at the court of her brother Edward III.
