Dunning's motion. On 6 April 1780 John Dunning carried by 233 votes to 215, in the face of Lord North's anxious protests, a motion that the influence of the crown had increased, was increasing, and ought to be diminished. This was the high spot of the opposition's campaign for economical reform. But the Gordon riots of June 1780 gave North's administration a reprieve.
