Carbisdale, battle of

Carbisdale, battle of, 1650. Early in 1650 Montrose sailed from Bergen to Orkney with a small force. He moved to the mainland without gathering much support and on 27 April was surprised at Carbisdale, on the Kyle of Sutherland, west of Dornoch. His supporters were routed, Montrose captured and hanged in Edinburgh the following month.
