PAN-AMERICAN EXPOSITION
PAN-AMERICAN EXPOSITION. The Pan-American Exposition, held at Buffalo, New York, was the scene of the assassination of President William McKinley after the delivery of his Pan-American speech in the fair's Temple of Music on 6 September 1901. The fair was designed to show the progress of a century in the New World and to promote commercial and social interests; its cost was almost $2.5 million. The New York State Building, an imitation of the Parthenon in Greece, now houses the Buffalo Historical Society. The exposition presented a comprehensive picture of the beauties and possibilities of modern electricity.
