Streams of gas, liquid, or solids that are the by-products of a treatment operation or industrial process. The term has also been used to describe the flow of solid waste from various sources, including individual homes. The term is often used in pollution prevention strategies and industrial waste treatment initiatives. Many industries are now required to pretreat their wastes and seek ways to minimize waste production.
